The simplest moments, the tiny details – that’s where the story unfolds for wedding photographer Stacey Splawn of The Magnolia Studio. Unscripted moments, a sweet text message from the bride to the groom before the ceremony, the groom’s expression when he sees the bride walk down the aisle, these are the story details Stacey specializes in and gets the most satisfaction from. It’s in those details that a couple’s unique love narrative is told and the ones they will cherish the most in their many years together.
The Magnolia Studio is primarily an East Texas wedding-based photography and short film company; the local nature of the company allows Stacey to put as much attention towards her couples as possible. “We have a photojournalism approach to weddings and aim to accurately represent our couple’s story through our photographs and films.”
Stacey’s style is best described as two parts vintage, one part romantic, and one part fine art. “I try to be a fly on the wall in most cases so that I am always capturing something genuine.” And that style is honed through her own life, as she practices her craft with her family (her “smarty-pants” English professor husband and four children) who inspire her and provide her with the opportunity to polish her skills. “Not only do I take a lot of pictures, but I know how to capture ‘true love’ because I live it everyday.”
The Magnolia Studio produces high-quality photos as well as short films, which are compilations of high definition video clips taken throughout the wedding day and put together in a 3-4 minute film. The video is then set to a soundtrack that is special to the bride and groom. It’s a client favorite and one that captures the wedding from a different angle. It’s also one of Stacey’s favorite things, as the reaction she receives from the brides once they’ve received their videos is like no other.
“This is something I aim to have done within 48 hours of their wedding day and have been blown away by the sweet messages I have received from my brides and their mommas! It makes me feel like I have bottled up their wedding day, which absolutely flies by, into something they will cherish forever. That feeling rocks!”
The Magnolia Studio packages range from; The Essentials, which includes six hours coverage, 600-800+ images, online gallery, professional editing, and 14-day turnaround, to The Platinum Package, which includes everything from The Essentials plus eight hours coverage, bridal session, engagement session, and the HD wedding-day video. Portrait sessions and add-ons, like flush-mount albums, are offered as well.
“My clients can expect everything I’ve got,” Stacey says. “I truly, truly put everything into documenting their wedding day, both through their film and their photography. All weddings are completed within 14 days of their wedding date, and their film is done within 48 hours. The images are theirs to keep and print whenever they choose. My couples walk away with at least 1000 fully edited images to treasure forever.”
For anyone interested in booking The Magnolia Studio, Stacey says the sooner the better. “I now have brides that are booked a year out, so I try to stress booking early.”
And for those who are on the fence about hiring a wedding photographer, Stacey highly recommends investing in one, even if it’s not The Magnolia Studio. “Too often I hear of couples that have hired a family-friend to document their wedding day and have been so disappointed with the results. This puts them in an awkward position with that particular friend and is something that can never be corrected or relived. I’ve met people that have said to me ‘I don’t even like to think about my wedding day because I am so disappointed by my photographs.’ That makes me incredibly sad! East Texas is full of extremely talented wedding photographers.
And last, but certainly not least, couples who are nervous about the unknown of booking a wedding photographer should know that they don’t have to have it all figured out. All it takes is a session with Stacey to work out the details. “Too often my couples come in nervous about the unknown,” Stacey notes, “but by the end of our coffee session we are usually all talked out and have a more personal relationship that lasts for years to come.”
It’s that kind of one-on-one dedication and personal attention that brides and grooms will love about working with The Magnolia Studio. Not only will their investment result in gorgeous photos and keepsake videos, but a relationship with a local business that is passionate about piecing together East Texas love stories.
