When it comes to planning your wedding, we know you have a lot on your plate. There are guest lists to create, seating charts to prepare, budgets to balance, and the list goes on. With so much to think about, it’s easy to forget about self-care.
But here’s the thing – taking care of yourself – mind, body, and soul – will help you look your absolute best on your wedding day. And beauty isn’t just about what people see on the outside – the makeup and hair and manicure. It’s also about how you’re feeling on the inside. If you feel your best on the inside, you’ll look your best on the outside.
So what can you do to look your best on your wedding day? To get that blushing bridal glow? Keep reading for things you can start doing now, no matter where you’re at in your wedding planning journey.
Eat Healthy Foods
You don’t have to be on a diet to eat healthy foods. In fact, we encourage you to change the way you think about getting fit for the wedding. Instead of dieting and cutting out things like sugar, soda, and processed foods, think of what you eat as fuel. You want to fill your belly with fresh foods that provide both energy and skin beauty boosters.
Sure, sugar and caffeine will give you a temporary energy boost, but they can also cause energy crashes and bloat. Trade them out for beauty foods like fresh fruit and vegetables, lean proteins, nuts, and good fats like omega-3s.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t indulge in a slice of pizza or chocolate cake. It just means being mindful of what you’re filling your body with and how you feel when you eat certain things. The fresher, the better.
Move the Body
Just as it’s important to fill up on healthy foods, it’s also important to strengthen and stretch your body. And you don’t have to dedicate a lot of time or sign up for a full-on workout routine at your local gym. We know your time is limited, but you’re probably also spending a lot of it sitting down. Your body craves movement!
You can indulge those muscles with something as small as 10 minutes of yoga a day or something as grand as taking a one hour spin class five days a week. Workout at home, at the gym, or with a friend. Whatever works best for you. If you get into a routine and are consistent with your workouts, you’ll look, and more importantly, feel so much better!
Did you know that one of the best ways to feel and look great is by drinking water? It makes sense when you think about it. More than half of our body is made up of water, so in essence, water is life! It is cleansing and refreshing and you’d be surprised at how much better you feel when you get an adequate amount of H2O.
Aim to drink half of your body weight in ounces, and more if you’re engaged in physical activity. Staying hydrated can minimize the look of aging, boost energy and brain function, keep you regular, increase metabolic rate (which helps with weight loss), and increase satiety (In one study, dieters who drank half a liter of water before meals lost 44% more weight, over a period of 12 weeks).
Keep it simple, sweetie! Wedding planning, that is. If you’re stressed out and anxious it can show up physically, either through sickness and/or things like skin blemishes and weight gain/loss. It’s important to take care of yourself during this wonderful, but sometimes crazy journey. Remember what’s important, why you’re doing this, and don’t let yourself get too consumed with perfection.
Makeup artist Bobbi Brown says there is a direct link between stress and beauty. “It’s all about recharging. Taking time to restore will ultimately make you more energized and productive.” In other words, don’t plan til you drop. Take time out to relax and just be, whether that’s by taking a bath, reading a book, or getting a massage. Whatever helps calm your mind and your nerves. And remember to get enough rest!
