Korey and I first met mid-June in 2015 at a mutual friend’s apartment. It was a casual Taco Tuesday/game night, but little did we know that it would be the beginning of such a crazy, yet beautiful ride.
That year, we dated for a few short months from September 1 – November 21. Korey had ventured off to Columbus to attend Texas Bible Institute, which was about 5 hours away from where I lived. The distance was definitely tough for our new relationship and we ended up parting ways. After we broke up, we didn’t stay in contact much at all. During our time apart, there was much that we accomplished and grew through individually that made us into the people we are today. Korey went through bible school, worked as a special needs aid at a school nearby, and was active at The Way Bible Church (where he is now the Youth Pastor) here in Sulphur Springs, TX. I had a full-time job and attempted to keep up my social status. Truthfully, we both had very different outlooks on life during this time.
I can easily say that we took the long way around when it came to crossing paths again. We finally got back in touch at the end of 2017 after a very hard year on my end. I decided to start attending church with Korey. I didn’t want to admit it to other people at the time, but I needed Korey (and Jesus) more than I could have ever imagined.
It wasn’t but five months after we started dating again when that sweet man of mine decided that it was time to ask those four beautiful words that every girl dreams of hearing: “Will you marry me?” on June 14, 2018. I had gotten my nails done that day (and all my girls said AMEN!), with some of my sisters, my mom, and my boss (who doubles as a super close friend of mine). We had a ladies’ bible study that night, so I just assumed that we were enjoying our girls’ night out. I had NO idea that they were all helping Korey with his master plan! After we got home from the bible study, I walked around the back of our house and saw the love of my life standing across the deck, which was lined in lights and sunflowers – my favorite! His perfect plan went, well, perfectly! I said “YES!” and it’s been a whirlwind since. We’re more than excited and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with my forever love!
