My fiance David Fountain and I have been together for four and a half years. Our path to engagement started during high school when I would take him along the back roads of my childhood home. During our trips, there was this place that always stood out to us called the 6 Mile Hill (six miles to the top) and we loved to stop and admire it. After a few years, David enlisted in the U.S. Army, and after six months of training he was shipped overseas to South Korea. We didn’t get to see each other for nine months. He came home on leave for Christmas on December 20th and it was truly one of the happiest days of my life. The homecoming makes the goodbyes SO worth it!

The next morning we spent the day laughing and cooking and catching up! He told me that his dad wanted to take family pictures and wanted David to be in his dress blues. He said that his dad was interested in buying some land too and he wanted to stop by and show us on the way. We started driving to 6 Mile Hill around sundown and pulled up to this beautiful cabin decorated with Christmas garland.

David’s dad jumped out of the car and said that he forgot something in town and needed to go back, but that David and I should take a look inside the cabin. Normally, I would be a little suspicious, but it had been such an emotional 24 hours that I was a little thrown off!

David took me through the fence into the front yard and stopped before the steps of the cabin. He then turned toward me, the sunset over the hills, and tells me how beautiful it is and touches my cheek. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!

I was so surprised and happy! David took me into the cabin and there was this gorgeous meal (my favorite: salmon and crab cakes) on this beautiful candlelight table! There were flowers everywhere and our favorite artist, Frank Sinatra, played from a speaker. I came to find out later that David’s mother and my best friend set up everything and cooked, which made it all the more special.

It was the most gorgeous night. David took my hand to show me my ring; he had it custom made and placed my late mother’s wedding ring diamond in the center. If you have ever lost someone, you can only imagine how precious a gift like this is. He had the inside engraved, “You are my home.”

The thought he put into every detail was the most precious thing anyone has done for me. I love him with all my heart and can’t wait to be his wife!
